Her journey started decades ago when one of Marquez’s high school teachers in Mexico City, her hometown, held an after-school class for "whoever wanted to learn about twisting (balloons), like the clowns do,” she recalled. “I took a class with Professor Muro, but just looking at what he did and the spiral art in classic décor—that was the first time (balloon art) got my attention.”

Years later, another opportunity to learn the art form arose while visiting family in Mexico City.

As the business grew, Marquez continued her education in the field, attending more workshops and earning a bachelor’s degree online through a Florida university program that specializes in the decorative balloon art form. "'I'm the first generation of the Decolover Institute."

Marquez said. “I’m a professional balloon designer.

Marquez has attended several training conventions, including the World Balloon Convention (2016 in New Orleans, LA, and 2018 in San Diego, CA), FLOAT (2022 in Chicago, IL), Float 2024 Chicago, the Decolovers Institute in Florida, and many more classes.

Lorena was chosen from hundreds of applicants to be part of the 75-artist crew in the United Kingdom in December of 2023.

Their charitable event would raise money for the Surrey Charity Network, which includes 30 nonprofits benefiting children.

“It will be the biggest balloon installation to have ever been done in the United Kingdom,” and their largest charity fundraiser as well, Davies said in a news release.

Lorena's favorite thing is working to create large-scale productions with Balloonyz.
